Organizations

I have found such strong support from various groups that I feel I must share them with you.  I will add more as our grief journey continues…

The Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood www.sudc.org                                                                                                                  This organization supports research to investigate the sudden death of children over the age of 12 months. Such as what occurred with B, there are no answers. However, the organization is encouraging medical professionals to research what similarities they are finding among the deaths of these children. SUDC occurs once per every 100,ooo children. While exploring their site, and becoming a member, I felt as though I was reading about our situation.

The Hearts Connection Program at Little Company of Mary Hospital, Evergreen Park, IL                       www.lcmh.org                                                                                    This program is offered twice a year, spring and fall. While children meet to discuss their loss through art therapy, the adults meet to share stories and discuss various strategies to deal with difficult emotions. It was a fabulous experience.

The Compassionate Friends   www.compassionatefriends.org                                                                                 This group is networked throughout the country. Monthly meetings are held in cities across the country for parents and grandparents who have lost a child. Although I have yet to attend a meeting, I have found their website and newsletter very helpful.

SIDS of Illinois     www.sidsillinois.org                                                                                                        The Sudden Infant Death Services of Illinois had sent my family several resources to help guide us through our grief. Although our baby B didn’t die from SIDS, this organization still offered helpful information.
